Kazakhstan currently has multiple pipeline construction projects underway across sectors including natural gas and water supply. Below are descriptions of selected projects:
• Phase II of the “Beyneu-Pozvoi-Shymkent” Natural Gas Pipeline: This project involves constructing a second pipeline with an annual gas transmission capacity of 15 billion cubic meters. In February 2025, the Government of Kazakhstan signed a joint implementation agreement with Qatari investor Power International Holding. Construction and installation work has commenced on Phase I, including laying a 1,450-kilometer pipeline with an annual capacity of 10 billion cubic meters and constructing three new compressor stations.
• Atyrau LPG Export Pipeline Project: Constructed by EskenelPG, this 18.5-kilometer pipeline connects the NCOC Bolashak plant to the Atyrau LPG separation facility. Construction is scheduled to commence in January 2025 and be completed within 11 months. Designed with a throughput capacity of 213.4 cubic meters per hour, the pipeline will be buried 170 centimeters underground. The buried section will be covered with three layers of polymer insulation material.
Astana City Water Supply Project: China Energy Engineering Group Gezhouba Group and Kazakhstan’s Astana Capital Water Supply Company signed an EPC contract on March 31, 2025. The project will construct within 36 months: – A water intake pumping station with a daily pumping capacity of 342,000 cubic meters – Two booster pumping stations – Approximately 400 kilometers of water transmission pipelines and distribution systems – A water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 210,000 cubic meters This will meet the water demand for approximately 2 million residents in Astana.
• KS-14 Kustanai-Aktobe Gas Pipeline Project: Kazakhstan will collaborate with Qatar’s UCC Holding Public Company to construct this project, aiming to supply natural gas to residents and industrial enterprises in Kustanai Province. Kazakhstan’s state-owned gas company and UCC Holding have reached an agreement on project cooperation, with joint implementation expected to commence shortly.
• Russia-Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline Project: The pipeline project transporting natural gas from Russia through Kazakhstan to China is under construction. With an annual capacity of 45 billion cubic meters, 10 billion cubic meters will serve northeastern Kazakhstan, while 35 billion cubic meters will be exported to China.
